Security

The Security screen can be used in two ways: 1) to manage which Public users can view a page on the front end or 2) to manage which Authoring users can edit the page in QuantumCMS.

Accessing the Security Screen

Step 1: Using the Navigation Tree, access the page that you would like to manage.

Step 2: Click the arrow next to the Properties button and select “Security” from the menu.

On the following page, you may see a message that reads, “Inheriting Permissions from Parent” followed by a link. This message indicates that the current page is relying on the security settings of the page above it. In this example, the link is to the Home page, which means that the current page’s security settings are traced all the way back to the Home page.

Step 3: Click the Override button (if present).

The message on the page should now read, “Overridding Permissions” and the Override button is replaced with a Reset button. These indicate that the page is no longer inheriting its security settings from the Home page and has its own unique configuration.

Public Security

The most common use for defining Public Security is to create a password-protected page or section. This can be achieved on the Security screen by completing the following steps.

Step 1: Access the Security screen of the appropriate page (see above for instructions).

Step 2: Uncheck the View checkbox for the “Public User” and click the Save button.

Front-end users will no longer be able to access the page without logging in.

Step 3: Enable access for desired users or roles. In this example, we have applied the View permission for the “Extranet User” Public role. Any users that belong to that role may log in when prompted

Authoring Security

You can use the Security screen to define which Authoring users and roles have permission to edit a page by completing the following steps.

Step 1: Access the Security screen of the appropriate page (see above for instructions).

Step 2: Add or remove permissions to the desired users or roles by checking or unchecking the appropriate checkboxes. In this example, Add and Edit permissions have been removed from the Authors role. Click the Save button.

Users assigned the Authors role no longer have permission to edit the page.

Additional Features

Reverting Changes

If you make a mistake or simply wish to revert your changes, you may reset the permissions for a specific user or role by clicking the Reset icon next to the appropriate record, or you may revert the entire page to its default settings by clicking the Reset button in the button bar.

Permissions History

You can click the arrow next to a user or role to see how the permissions were assigned. In this example, the Authoring User has no Add or Edit permissions because they were disabled for the Authors role.
