City of Buffalo

A fundamental goal for any municipality's government is to be more responsive to its residents. Algonquin Studios has helped the City of Buffalo fulfill this goal by designing a web site that engages the community and provides residents and businesses easy access to city information and services. Residents are able to pay for parking tickets, garbage user fees, and soon city permits and licenses online.

Algonquin Studios and the City of Buffalo worked together to develop the City's site in order to provide residents greater access to government, while lowering the costs of doing business for the City. A committee was created to advise the City on the look and feel of the web initiative, ensuring all voices were represented in the face of the site to its citizens and the world. The site was designed with all users in mind, with the focus on creating a site that is attractive, useable and accessible. Algonquin is always meeting with commissioners from each City department to better understand how the web site can improve customer service and we conduct ongoing training with City employees who use QuantumCMS to guarantee they're getting the most out of the system.

The City web site uses QuantumCMS to separate the look and feel of the site from the content. QuantumCMS allows the City to maintain the web site in-house in a timely and cost-effective manner. Delegated content authoring allows staff members from each city department to make changes appropriate to their section of the new web site through an easy-to-use web interface.

The home page of the City of Buffalo site.  It presents primary and secondary levels of the site to the user immediately, allowing for faster access to information.

The City recently launched its 311 Call and Resolution Center to provide citizens with a fast, centralized way to register complaints, get information, and access non-emergency police services.  Reports and requests can be made and progress can be tracked online using assigned reference numbers.

This screen shows the first step in the online parking ticket payment process.  Users can now pay for many city services and fees online, adding a new level of convenience for both city employees and residents.
